Young artists showcased
Vernon Each March, schools in New Jersey celebrate Youth Art Month known throughout the schools as YAM, which aims to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. The Art Educators of NJ sponsor exhibits and celebrations in each of New Jersey’s counties. Original displays of paintings, drawings, and collages capture the spirit and imagination of New Jersey’s talented students. Artwork created by students in kindergarten through twelfth grades from Sussex County’s public and private schools will be on display at the Sussex County Courthouse on High Street in Newton through March 25. Six pieces of artwork were selected from the entire exhibit and sent to the Art Educators of NJ 2010 Youth Art Month State Exhibit from March 12 to 19, at the Trenton Statehouse. Morgan Blaine, a student at Cedar Mountain Primary School in Vernon was one of the six young artists chosen. The exhibit is sponsored by Art Educators of NJ and Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council, and is coordinated under the direction of Beth Delaney, a teacher at the Fredon School, who chairs Sussex County YAM, and co-chair Sara O’Neill, a teacher in Stanhope.
