Vernon marketing student scholarship winners advance to national DECA competition

Vernon - Marissa Harper, Eric Tarczynski, and Travis McKowen, seniors at Vernon Township High School, were recipients of several scholarships awarded at the NJ Marketing “DECA” State competition at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Cherry Hill. DECA is part of the marketing program at the school designed for students interested in business. DECA provides students with the ability to use the skills they learn in their marketing classes and provides opportunities to become involved in a variety of activities which include local, state and national competition. The following students will advance to the International Career Development Conference in Louisville, Ky. this month: Marissa Harper, Tracy Caballero, and Kasarah Ackerman will compete in the community service project. Additionally, Eric Tarczynski will compete in marketing management; Evan Dolcimascolo will compete in technical sales, and Nicole Bekefi will compete in accounting. Over 7,000 students from across the country will compete for top honors in Louisville. The following students were finalists in their categories of competition: Luka Dragutinovic - restaurant marketing, Augustine Altomare - sports marketing; Zach Deluca - technical sales; Nick Batista and David Grice - quick serve; Allison Zeedyk and Jillian Mohn - fashion promotion; Haley Anderson, Lara McNulty, Emma DeLuca, and Kelsey Blanchard - advertising campaign; Samantha Palka - travel and tourism; Erin McLaughlin - hotel management; Dionna Rinaldi, instructional awards - marketing management; and Kasarah Ackerman - business services.
