Wantage — Former Wantage Mayor Parker Space kicked off his campaign for Sussex County Freeholder with the help of Steve Lonegan, the politician who carried Sussex County in last year’s Republican primary for governor. “The suburban and rural communities that make up Sussex County are short-changed by Trenton liberals,” Lonegan said. “We need someone to join with elected conservatives to fight for Sussex County. Parker Space is that someone.” Space served as mayor of Wantage three times and served two terms on the township committee. He and his wife Jill have been members of the Republican County Committee for six years and were recently elected to serve as members of Republican State Committee. The Space family has farmed in Sussex County for eight generations and operated Space Farms Zoo & Museum since 1927. Parker Space is a director of the Sussex Rural Electric Co-op and served 21 years as an active member of the Wantage Fire Department. He spent eight years on the Land Use Board and four on the Open Space Advisory Committee. He’s a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the New Jersey Farm Bureau and the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce.
