Principal respected student voices during April School's Day protest

I would like to congratulate Timothy Dunnigan, Principal of Vernon High School, for acknowledging the educational value of last Thursday’s student protest against Governor Christie’s state aid cuts and the impact these drastic cuts will have on the educational systems throughout the state. Were it not for civil disobedience we Americans might still be singing “God Save the Queen!” The teachers of Vernon Township have a great deal to be proud as it is evident the students in Vernon High School have learned a great deal about honor, democracy, and the importance of standing up for a righteous cause. As a parent of a sixth-grader in the district, I have been reassured that my daughter is being educated in a district that stands behind her right to free speech and assembly. I would also, perhaps more importantly, like to congratulate the students of Vernon High School who exercised their rights and conducted themselves in such an honorable manner. Laura Borgess Vernon
