March 11

Juan C. Gomez-Sarrazola, 27 of Linden, pleaded guilty to eluding, a crime of the third degree, and various motor vehicle offenses.

Sentencing is presently scheduled for May 13, before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C.

The defendant admitted that he continued to drive his motorcycle in Wantage Township on April 18, 2021, despite being signaled to stop by law enforcement.

March 17

David M. Utter, 32, of Port Jervis, NY, was sentenced to two years non-custodial probation with credit for four days jail already served. He was ordered to submit to a substance abuse evaluation and follow any and all recommendations, made for same, and pay $2,083 in fees including motor vehicle fines. His driving privileges were ordered suspended for one year and seven months.

He pleaded guilty on Dec. 6, 2021 to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a crime of the third degree and on March 4, he pleaded guilty to the motor vehicle offenses of driving under the influence and failing to have liability insurance.

The defendant drove his vehicle recklessly while under the influence in Montague Township on July 17, 2020.

March 22

Gabriella Colon, 20, of Vernon pleaded guilty to Aggravated Assault, a crime of the fourth degree, and sentencing is presently scheduled for May 12. before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C.

Colon also pled guilty to Driving While Intoxicated, a motor vehicle offense, and was ordered to serve 12 hours in the Intoxicated Driver Resource Center and pay $414 in motor vehicle fines and fees. Her driving privileges were ordered suspended until an ignition interlock device is installed and for three months thereafter.

In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to driving her vehicle in an unsafe manner while under the influence in Vernon Township on November 5, 2021. She also admitted to purposely attempting to cause bodily injury to a Vernon Township police officer while that officer was exhibiting evidence of their authority.

March 28

Lance Miley, age 36, pleaded guilty to Criminal Mischief, a fourth- degree crime.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 21.

In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to damaging property of another in Newton on January 9, 2022, in excess of $500.00.

The case was investigated by Ptl. Steven Shawger of the Newton Police Department.

April 4

Louis J. Sloane, 58 of Hopatcong, pleaded guilty to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a third-degree crime, and to violation of probation.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 3, 2022.

In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to being in possession of heroin in Byram Township on Nov. 1, 2021.

The case was investigated by Ptl. D. Kuncken and Sgt. D. Dewald of the Byram Township Police Department.

April 8

Nyerei Reed, 21, of Newark, was sentenced to two years non-custodial probation with credit for 205 days jail already served. He was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service, submit a substance abuse evaluation and follow any and all recommendations, made for same, and pay $280 in fines and fees.

He pleaded guilty on May 6, 2021 to Receiving Stolen Property and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, both are crimes of the third degree.

The defendant received stolen property and conspired to commit burglary in Sparta Township on May 22, 2019.
