Local funny chickens earn top honors

SUSSEX — Two local chickens are getting national notice as winners of America’s Fanciest and Funniest Chicken Photo Contest, put on by Purina Mills. Gale Miko of Sussex and her bird Penny have been named a funniest grand prize winner. And, a chicken named Stripe from Port Jervis, N.Y., whose owners buy their feed at Farmside Supplies in Sussex, was also a winner in the contest. Contestants were invited to enter pictures of their fanciest bird struttin’ his stuff or their funkiest chicken doin’ his funniest thing. Winners were selected for both the fanciest and funniest categories based on originality, overall artistic composition, use of color and photo quality. Ten grand prize winners in each category receive a one-year’s supply of a Purina SunFresh Recipe Poultry feed of their choice for one bird. All other winners receive recognition and a Purina SunFresh Recipe apron. “We’re very proud that Stripe was a winner in America’s Fanciest and Funniest Chicken Photo Contest,” said Wende Clausen, manager of Farmside Supplies in Sussex.
