Fall programs at Sussex County libraries

    Lap Sit Program Books, songs, fingerplays and more for ages six months through two years and their siblings. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Morgan will read her new book “What to do with Ahhh Chooo?” and discuss how to keep healthy during the cold and flu season. A craft will follow. Registration required and is ongoing: Main Library: Thursday: Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m. ‘The Man who flies with Birds ‘ Sussex County resident and author Carole Vogel will discuss her book, The Man Who Flies with Birds, the biography of a scientist who studied the prevention of bird/plane collisions such as that which caused an airplane to make an emergency landing on the Hudson River this past January. The program is open to children in grade four through adults. Registration required and begins Monday, October 5. Main Library: Saturday: Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. Skylands Ice World Book Group Kids in grades four to six are invited to Skylands Ice World on the second Wednesday of each month for an activity and book discussion followed by skating for half price. The book meeting starts at 6:15 p.m. followed by skating from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Call the Main Library at 973 948-3660 to register. Just Us Teens Book Club Like to get together with others your age? This month, the group is discussing “New Moon,” by Stephanie Meyers and planning the New Moon release party for Nov. 18. Open to teens entering grades seven to 12, no registration required. Main Library: Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. Tapping Your Problems Away - An Introduction to Emotional Freedom Technique Dr. Kim Stetzel of Branchville Family Chiropractic will explain how to counter fear, anxiety, pain and other stress through the emotional freedom technique (EFT), a simple tool to discharge the negative emotions that plague you. Based on the premise that all negative emotion is a disruption in the body’s energy system, EFT is a quick, effective method to remove the energy blocks which create those disruptive patterns. Open to adults, registration is required and ongoing. Main Library: Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. Adult Book Club: “Twenty Wishes,” by Debbie Macomber Thirty-eight year old widow Anne Marie Roche, owner of a successful Seattle bookstore, creates a list of twenty wishes. While acting upon those wishes she encounters Ellen, an eight-year-old girl who helps her complete her list with unexpected results. All adults welcome, no registration required. Main Library: Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. Create Balance and Relieve Anxiety Adjunct Professor from Montclair State University and Centenary College, writer and mom Diane Lang will lead a workshop designed to help you create a balanced lifestyle by relieving stress and anxiety. Learn the signs of burnout and techniques to help you feel less stressed and more empowered. Main Library: Oct. 24 at 12 noon Solutions for College Funding A.G. Newell of Solutions for College Funding Inc. will discuss how parents of college-bound juniors and seniors can improve eligibility for financial aid, choose the plan that offers the most assistance, secure more free money and take fewer loans, correctly complete forms to avoid costly mistakes and more. Registration required and begins Oct. 13. Louise Childs: Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. Evening Purls of Wisdom The Evening Purls of Wisdom knitting group invites experienced and new knitters to bring their projects and supplies and join them at the Dorothy Henry Library. The group usually meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 7:00 - 8:15 PM but times may vary so please call the branch in advance at 973 827-8095. No registration required.
