Kiwanis Club awards scholarships at annual dinner

    Sparta — The Sparta Kiwanis Club recently awarded 17 scholarships at its 28th annual scholarship dinner at the Lafayette House. The scholarships were awarded to graduates of Sparta High School, Sussex County Technical School and Pope John XXIII High School for a total of $18,500. The scholarships were presented to the following students: Sussex County Technical: Theodore Leenstra, Stephanie Fritz, Amy McConnell and Alexander Hollis Sparta High School: Luke Huelsenbeck, Jessica Colberg, Yiwei Li, Allison Bolger, Brynna Bolger, Amanda Garger, Kari Tuttrup and Keri Cresbaugh Pope John XXIII: Stephanie Sapol, Brianna Sherrier, John Friend, Katherine Miller and Adam Wechsler. Several of the scholarships were awarded in memory of Kiwanis Club members: Coach Richard Cassels, teacher Augustus Rampone, school administrator Randy Scope and Sparta Board of Education member Armen Koochagian. Since 1982 Sparta Kiwanis has awarded $290,900 in scholarships to graduating seniors who have served their school and community, maintained a strong academic record and displayed outstanding character and leadership qualities.
