Vernon — Janet Morrison, a Vernon resident and former township mayor, has accepted the position of president of the Community Chorale Society. She will oversee the business side of running the non-profit organization. Vernon’s mayor in 2006 and 2007, Morrison also served as deputy mayor for six years. She has been a member of the chorale society for 10 years. She first held office as the publicity chair in 2000 and sings in the soprano section of the chorus. “I always loved to sing, but only in the car along with the radio, and of course, I subjected my family to many serenades of songs from my era,” Morrison said. “I actually had to be talked into going to check out the chorale society at first. I was pretty intimidated by it.” Explaining how she views her new role, Morrison said, “I’ve learned so much about forms of music I really never understood and have come to love so many pieces that I would never have dreamt I could sing. I would consider it extremely rewarding to be able to help bring that feeling to people in our community.” As always, the choral society is seeking new members in all sections.
