Woman injured in bear incident

VERNON — A woman was injured on Monday after police said she was charged by a bear near her home.
Township police said the woman left her house to walk her dog and saw a bear with three cubs near the house. Police said the bear charged the resident, causing her to fall backwards. Police said the neighbor saw the bear on or near the resident.
The resident was transported by the Vernon Township Ambulance Squad to the hospital to treat injuries suffered in the fall.
Police said the N.J. Division of Fish and Wildlife was contacted and advised of the incident.
