Many people I ask have no idea what the term “woke” means. So I looked it up.
One definition I found “is alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination.”
Another definition “is to emerge from a state of sleep.”
The word “woke” after the Civil War was used to save lives. The word got around the community to “stay woke,” i.e. be alert and awake as they are coming around to lynch.
I hope this helps people to know what is being said when this term is used.
