Assault-weapon ban would save lives

The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives Americans the “right to bear arms.“

When the Constitution was written, we had just fought a war to be a free nation. There were no nuclear bombs, hand grenades, AR-15s, high-capacity magazines ... .

A gun for protection and/or rifle to hunt complies with our Second Amendment rights. (I think a background check makes sense for any weapon to be obtained.)

Assault weapons are weapons of war - for use by the military and police. With more than 500 mass shootings this year, Americans are being slaughtered.

In the recent Maine mass shooting, it took days to identify the victims because AR-15s obliterate the body.

Banning assault weapons, such as AR-15s ,would save many lives. It is not 1791.
