Vernon. The Vernon Township Council on June 14 approved spending nearly $485,000 to replace the football field at Maple Grange Park.

The township will pay $484,795 to Shaw Sports Turf to replace Turf Field No. 3.

Township Engineer Cory Stoner estimated the turf replacement to come in at about $485,000 with about $21,100 deducted for the reuse of existing rubber fill and estimated a total product cost of $463,695.

The credit assumes that a minimum of 3 pounds of existing infill can be extracted and reused.

Shaw will remove and dispose of the existing turf and visually inspect the base and drag roll. Then the company will supply and install its turf over the base. The field will be marked for football, baseball and soccer.

This is the third field to have been replaced at Maple Grange Park. The township replaced the two soccer fields in the fall of 2019 for a price of about $873,000. Work on those fields began on Sept. 23, 2019, and the field were reopened in early November.
