The Sussex County Miners' right-handed pitcher Jeff Thompson was named the Can-Am pitcher of the week.

Thompson had a pair of strong outings on the week, starting Tuesday when he earned the victory over Trois-Rivières, giving up two runs on four hits in 6.2 innings while striking out eight. He followed up with an outstanding complete-game performance over Quebec on Saturday, allowing a run on five hits with seven strikeouts in a 10-1 Miners win.

In his first season in the Can-Am League, the Louisville, Ky., native leads the circuit with ten wins and is third with 109.1 innings pitched to go along with a 3.70 ERA for first-place Sussex County.

This year marks Thompson's eighth professional season. After spending six years in the Detroit Tigers' system, reaching as high as Double-A, he pitched in the Frontier League in 2018. He was a third-round choice of the Tigers in the 2013 draft out of the University of Louisville.
