Wantage Sierra Club to host edible plant hike

Imagine you could go on a long hike and wouldn’t need to pack a lunch, because you would know which plants along the trail were good to eat.
Heather Housekeeper has done just that — several times. Heather is an expert on wild edibles. She will lead the Skylands Sierra Club and all who are interested on an "Edible Plants Hike" on Saturday, May 25, beginning at 10 a.m. at Lusscroft Farm, 50 Neilson Rd., Wantage.
The moderate hike will include lots of stopping to examine edible plants along the way. Heather will identify and describe each plant in detail. Some of the plants she will identify have medicinal properties. Some can be found right in your own lawn. Participants are encouraged to bring cameras and notebooks.
Housekeeper is a long distance hiker and certified herbalist. She has written two books about wild edible plants, A Guide to the Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Mountains to Sea Trail, and A Guide to the Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Finger Lakes Trail.
A donation of $20 is suggested. For questions, email Dave Alcock, Outings Chair of the Skylands Sierra Club, at dwhoob@hotmail.com.
