Senator Steven Oroho, Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose, and Assemblyman Parker Space visited the Sussex County Charter School for Technology on April 24 to talk to middle school students, parents, teachers and administrators of the innovative public charter school.
This was their first visit to the technology school since it opened its new campus two years ago and grew to 225 students in grades 6, 7, and 8.
"We were very pleased to host Senator Oroho, Assemblywoman Littell McHose, and Assemblyman Space ahead of Charter Schools Week," said Jill Eckel, Administrative Principal of the Charter School. "Their continued support of public schools of choice has been instrumental in helping us grow as an academic institution and a caring community. This visit is a testament to the trend in support for independent charter school education."
The Sussex County Charter School for Technology has served students from Sparta, Montague, Vernon, and all other surrounding towns within Sussex County since 1997. It is an innovative public school of choice, aligned with the new Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. There is no admissions test or tuition required to attend the regional public school.
A dynamic technology-based program at the school promotes active learning and embraces multiple learning needs and styles in a challenging environment. The interactive learning community encourages every student to grow academically, socially, and emotionally into responsible individuals who are ready to make a successful transition into high school and beyond.
National Charter Schools Week will be celebrated throughout the United States from May 5 to 11. According to the New Jersey Charter Schools Association, there are 86 charter schools in the state. Also according to the association, Charter Schools Week is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the substantial contribution New Jersey's charter public schools make to public education in the state.
