HomeWorks hero Frank Leone makes grocery runs during pandemic

Frank Leone is a retired pastor who felt a calling to work with United Methodist Communities (UMC) HomeWorks. As a companion at the Newton location, he assists UMC at Bristol Glen’s independent living residents with everyday tasks such as shopping, meal preparation, and companionship.

His background and training is reassuring during the COVID-19 pandemic. HomeWorks has offered his services, free, to residents who cannot get out to the store and may need supplies.

Through an organized process, residents create shopping lists, and Leone does his best to accommodate them. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he makes grocery runs for people who are either unable or reluctant to go out.

While maintaining social distancing protocols, he personally delivers healthy fresh fruits and vegetables, along with other groceries. Even the pets, important and therapeutic companions, appreciate Leone’s labor of love to keep them stocked up!

Even while observing distances, residents look forward to Leone's short visits to keep their spirits up during these uncertain times. Not only are they appreciative of this free service, it gives them a chance to see a cheery face and to interact socially.

Leone is not a stranger to helping those in need or to mission work. He has traveled to the Caribbean to help various communities following natural disasters. The staff says it's proud to call him one of HomeWorks’ heroes, doing whatever he can to assist and to brighten the lives of Bristol Glen’s residents.
