The Frnaklin Common Council tabled changes to the Length of Service Award Point Structure for the Borough of Franklin Fire Department after a long discussion that started when one Franklin resident began asking questions and volunteered to take a more detailed look at the proposal.

Councilman John Postas said that the goal of the changes would be to retain existing members and get new members.

Councilman Gilbert Snyder agreed that it should be tabled allowing “for research and see what other towns are doing in the area.”

Administrator Alison Littell McHose said it would be very difficult to pay salaries to the Fire Department and Sussex County is the only county in NJ that has all volunteer fire departments.

Long-time resident Dick Durina added that firefighters should be made aware of the Fireman’s Fund as a possible incentive.
