Michael James Meeker

Michael James Meeker of Milanville, Pa., formerly of Newton, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. He was 68.

Michael was born March 27, 1953, in Sussex, N.J. He was raised in Andover Township, N.J., by the late William J. and Mildred (Heller) Meeker.

Michael was a 27-year veteran of the Newton Police Department, where he served as a chief from 1994 to 2000. After retirement, he went on to a 13-year career with the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission in Yardley, Pa. He was a member of the Blue Knights of Milford, Pa.; PBA Local 600 of Sussex County; The Harley Owners Group; and the Harmony Lodge F&AM #8 of Andover, N.J. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and long rides on his Harley. Michael was endearingly called “Pops” and was an incredible father who was dedicated to his family. He was fair and caring to all and used his quick-witted humor to enrich lives. He was dedicated to the family dog, Hazel. Pops loved Blue Bloods, Chicago P.D., jokes, and eating meals with family.

He is survived by his immediate family, Michael P. (son) and wife, Carrie, of Hanover, Pa., Matthew (son) and wife, Chelsee, of Milanville, Pa.; and Sophia Sisco (sister), and her husband, James. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Karen Strout.

Visitation will held Nov. 16 at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, Newton. Funeral services were held Nov. 17 at the funeral home. Interment followed at the North Hardyston Cemetery, Hamburg, N.J.
