Leo J. Moore of Sussex, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, with his wife Carole and daughters Tracy and Laura by his side. He was 90.

Affectionately known as Jack, he was born and raised in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens, N.Y., the son of Leo and Katherine Moore. He was a proud Navy veteran, having served five years on the USS Rowan DD-782 during the Korean War.

Leo married Carole (Becker) Moore in 1968, and after living in San Diego, Calif., the couple made their home in Sussex. He was a quality assurance engineer for most of his life, but his family and friendships were what meant the most to him. Leo was a well-known and beloved figure within the community. He was a passionate town councilman and a respected former commander of The American Legion Post 213, of which he remained an active member throughout his life. Leo also planned reunions for his navy shipmates and was an avid skier and skin diver in his younger years. He had a gregarious laugh, loved a good joke, and truly enjoyed life.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Kay and Alice.

He is survived by his wife, Carole; daughters, Tracy (Rob) and Laura (Scott); grandchildren, Macy, Logan, Blajian, Maxwell, and Jack; brother, Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A “walk-through” visitation was held Feb. 1 at the Ferguson Funeral Home, Sussex. The funeral service took place during the visitation.

In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Legion Post 213 or St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Sussex.
