Anthony V. Massaro

Anthony V. Massaro of Andover Township, N.J., passed away at his home peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. He was 87.

Son of the late Pasquale and Helen (nee Voltzow), he was born in Passaic, N.J. He has resided in Andover Township since 1968.

Anthony had proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and served on the Pistol Team, where he participated in a worldwide competition held in Diamond Head Mountain Honolulu, Hawaii, placing third in the division of matches for 22-caliber 32-caliber and the 45-caliber divisions.

A master carpenter, Anthony was a home builder and later built and owned the Country Road Feed Store on Route 15 Lafayette, N.J., for 20 years until his retirement in 1998. An avid and talented horseman, Anthony owned and trained horses in his riding arena. Some of his horses he had for over 40 years. Another skill of Anthony’s was calf roping competing at Rodeos along the East Coast winning many awards.

Mr. Massaro was very active in Andover Township Civics as a member of the Planning and Zoning Boards as well as serving as a Township Committee Member, where he acted as a liaison and Trustee of the Andover Township Fire Department.

Anthony was predeceased by his brothers, William, Louis, and Pasquale Massaro; as well as a sister, Nancy Collins.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Grace Marie (nee Cinque) Massaro; sister Freida Wohlhammer of Cheney, Wash.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held April 30 in the Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Sparta, N.J. Interment immediately followed in the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Cemetery, #48 Airport Rd., Green Township, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church. Arrangements and online condolences through Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, Newton, N.J.
