    Joseph M. Cody of Newton, N.J., passed away Wednesdaym Nov. 4, 2020, at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway, N.J., following a long illness. He was 77.

    Son of the late William and Marie (Borst) Cody, he was born in Staten Island, N.Y. Joseph had resided in Franklin, N.J., and Vernon Township, N.J., for many years before moving to Newton 27 years ago.

    Joseph proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. A devout Catholic, Joseph had attended the St. Jude Roman Catholic Church Hamburg, N.J., and the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Newton. Joseph had a long career as a boiler operator, retiring from the former Legends Resort in Vernon.

    He was pre deceased by his daughter, Laura Pollard in 2014; brother, William Cody; and sisters, Patricia, Emerita ,and Mary Cody.

    Survivors include his beloved wife, Lois F. (Poggio) Cody, his son, Joseph B. Cody; as well as many nieces and nephews.

    Visitation was held Nov. 9 followed by funeral services at the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, Newton. Interment wwas held in the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta, N.J.
