NYU student to talk about her summer internship at the Van Kirk Homestead Museum

The Sparta Historical Society’s guest speaker on Nov. 12 is a graduate student who will talk about her summer internship at the Van Kirk Homestead Museum.

Jenise Sileo is studying for dual degrees in costume history and library science at New York University. Join her as she shares her internship experiences, focusing on behind-the-scenes textile conservation and researching for the Van Kirk’s “Homespun Arts” exhibit, which she curated.

Participants will learn about the 19th century men’s smoking cap and play a Victorian parlor game.

This presentation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, at Sparta Presbyterian Church, located at 32 Main Street

Following the presentation, refreshments will be served. Those attending will have a chance to ask questions about the topic or other issues relating to the fall exhibit.

Fall exhibit

The Sparta Historical Society is located at The Van Kirk Homestead Museum at 336 Main Street. The museum will be open Sunday, Nov. 14, and Nov. 28, with its fall exhibition, “The Creative Spirit: Homespun Arts.” Its final day of the season will be Sunday, Dec. 12, from 1-4 p.m. with a 2 p.m. talk.
