Art in Sussex County, which showcases local art at the New Jersey State Fair, has invited Donna Gratkowski of Sparta to be this year’s featured artist.

The Richards building at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta transforms into an art gallery during the state fair, displaying works from talented artists from the county.

Gratkowski will exhibit paintings inspired by local scenes and travels, ranging from country barns to vibrant florals and waterscapes. Working with pastels, the artist is careful not over blend keeping the colors pure. When oils are used, she applies them with a pallet knife, in thick rich layers.

Pastels and oils are perfect mediums to her, because she can easily convey how she feels, painting bold and passionately. Viewers are pulled into her paintings as if they are on the scene.

Admission to the New Jersey State Fair is required for entry into the art gallery. The fair will run from Aug. 7 to 14 this year at the Sussex County Fairgrounds, 37 Plains Road, Augusta.
