A couple hundred people attended a benefit for the Paterson Police Department’s K-9 Unit at the J&S Roadhouse on June 22.
Attendees enjoyed a barbeque buffet sponsored by the Outback Steakhouse as well as live music and games for the kids.
John Pullins organized the annual event this year.
In addition to raising money to help equip the four-legged officers in the department, donations were also made to combat children’s cancer.
Those donations and gifts were presented to the “Chief of the Day,” Delaney Kurdyla, 9, who is fighting the disease.
Pompton Lakes resident Trish Formisano donated $500 to the cause during the event.
The money raised helped outfit the K-9s, providing first aid packages and other supplies.
One of the K-9 officers put on a show for the crowd, demonstrating how it handles chasing down and holding onto suspects.
