Cameron Mastenbrook, a 17-year-old junior at Wallkill Valley Regional High School, was crowned Miss Hardyston Friday night June 8.

Mastenbrook said her favorite subject is Chemistry and hopes to study Psychology at Montclair University after she graduates from high school in 2020. Councilman Stanley Kula, emcee for the evening, asked her to make 1 wish and tell the audience of the wish. Miss Mastenbrook wished for all people to be “more accepting of one another.”

Destiny Glennen, 9 years old, was pronounced Jr. Miss Hardyston. Her one wish was for “world peace.”

Brandon Romeo, age 7, was awarded Little Mister Hardyston and a tie for Little Miss Hardyston with the honor going to both Skyleigh Rock, age 7, and Kylie Sophia Washer, age 6. Many of the children expressed an interest in going to the beach or swimming this summer. One contestant, Alana Romeo, said she wished her superpower was “to not have to do homework!” Carly Ashton, another contestant, said her superpower would be “To fly! so she could fly away from chores!” When Miss Aston told Councilman Kula she has 1 bunny, he let her know that he has 3 bunnies.

Miss Hardyston 2018 Nicole Verga thanked the audience for giving her the opportunity and noted that she had such a “good experience as Miss Hardyston” and “enjoyed the Queen of the Fair Pageant last year and became good friends with both Miss Green and Miss Vernon.”

The pageant was sponsored by Hardyston Township Recreation. Additional prizes were sponsored by Hardyston Township PBA, Sussex County YMCA, Westy’s Gymnastics, Stylz Hair and Nail Salon, Master Ken’s Xtreme Martial Arts Center, Avon Representative Jeannette Chardavoyne, Farida’s Hair Salon, and Painted Grape.
