Records fall at annual track meet

Hamburg. Two Sparta Middle School athletes break longstanding meet records.





The annual Sussex County Middle School Track Meet was held at the Wallkill Valley High School on Monday, May 20, and Tuesday, May 21.

There were a total of 18 schools that participated which included Andover — Long Pond, Frankford, Vernon — Glen Meadow School, Green Hills, Lafayette, Pope John Middle School, Byram Intermediate, Sussex-Wantage, Kittatinny, Hardyston, Ogdensburg, Newton – Halsted, Sussex Christian School, Sparta Middle School, Hamburg, Northwest Christian, Stanhope and Franklin Borough.

We also had two Sussex County MS records broken in the following events.

Girls 400 meter run – Ella Collins from Sparta Middle School broke the previous 400-meter run record with a time of 1:02.89, which was held by Vicky Caruso, from Hardyston since 2004 with a time of 1:03.98.

Girls Long Jump – Rylee Munier from Sparta Middle School broke the previous long jump record with a measurement of 15' 11" which was held by Donna Petrillo from Sussex-Wantage School since 1985.

Aiden Mitchell from Sussex Middle School was awarded the Male MVP.

Brynn McCurry from Sparta Middle School was awarded the Female MVP.

Team Trophies were awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place.

3rd place: Frankford Middle School
4th place: Green Hills School
Boys
1st place: Sussex – Wantage Middle School
2nd place: Sparta Middle School
3rd place: Andover – Long Pond School
4th place: Kittatinny Regional High School (7th & 8th grade)
