The law firm of Laddey Clark & Ryan hosted its first “Take Your Children to Work Day Program” for the children of its attorneys and staff members.
The program, which attracted 17 children between the ages of 8 and 18, was intended to teach, in a fun way, about careers practicing law, as well as the other professionals who work with them.
Following a welcome and introduction by Senior Partner Andrew Fraser and Managing Partner Thomas Ryan, the young people heard a panel discussion by three attorneys in very different practice areas, and a separate panel of other professionals who work in the law firm, including paralegals, legal assistants, controller and marketing manager. Highlights of the day included a visit by two Superior Court Judges and a law firm themed scavenger hunt.
The day ended with a mock trial, The People v. The Evil Queen, in which Snow White’s nemesis was put on trial for poisoning her. While the judge as well as the defense and plaintiff’s attorneys, were all portrayed by attorneys, the children themselves portrayed Snow White and the witnesses, and served as the jury, which ended up convicting the Evil Queen.
“What great kids and what a rich program for all ages,” said Managing Partner Ryan. “It was terrific to share the unique culture of Laddey Clark & Ryan – and our love for the law – with these young people, and hopefully encourage some of them to consider careers practicing or supporting the practice of law.”
