Council discusses plans for Heater's Pond

Officials discussed Ogdensburg Heater’s Pond schedules and swim shack issues on April 22 during the Ogdensburg Council meeting.
Resident Michelle Nardini asked again about Heater’s Pond opening earlier in order for the swim team to have more practice time before their first swim meet.
Councilman Peter Opilla said the biggest issues would be with the life guards’ schedule and budget. He said they can look at possibly extending the schedule for certain days of the week, which might be a benefit for other residents to swim after work. He added, they would see what they could work out.
Additionally, Nardini brought up health issues with the swim shack and asked if they could be resolved prior to their first swim meet.
After discussion about whether the ORA or town was responsible for maintaining the building, Mayor George Hutnick said the town should do a full inspection of the entire building, both inside and out. He said he did not care who owns the building, or who uses it. However, he did want a list of everything which needs to be repaired and/or painted.
Councilman Anthony Nasisi volunteered for he and Council President Michael Nardini to look at the shack when they fix the door.
Nasisi also agreed with Hutnick’s idea for a full assessment of building safety, code compliance, and health requirements. He added they should also check to see if there might be anything available with grants in addition to volunteer work.

Councilwoman Rachel Slater reported the seasonal employee ad has been posted.
Resident Vicki Schroeder said she is planning a meeting for all the town entities involved in Ogdensburg Day. She also said, after they choose the ride package and make the deposit, there will not be much to do until just before the event.
Hutnick reminded that if food is not pre-packaged, vendors will need to obtain a food handler license from the county.
Schroeder also confirmed the vendor fee is $25 for a 10’ x 10’ space.
