Fairgrounds hosts garage sale, home show

AUGUSTA — It was a spring double header at the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Saturday March 23.
The fairgrounds bustled with smart shoppers who came for bargains and treasures at the dual venue — the Monster Garage Sale and the Home Show held in the newly renovated Richards Building and adjacent pavilions.
For a minimal entrance fee, garage sale shoppers had over 100 table and booth vendors to check out, bargain and purchase from. An array of merchandise was available from attic and basement finds, to $5 sales tables, to handcrafted items. Represented were clever bird houses by Heaven Creations, pampered pet offerings by WaggMore Pet Boutique and more. Bill and Helga of Pennies Pride displayed a colorful table of handmade soaps produced with healthy goat’s milk and others containing a glycerin and vegetable base.
Familiar, hometown gal Lori Space Day offered her books that personally describe her life as Sussex County’s zookeeper’s daughter.
Space-Day reminded folks of Space Farms opening day on March 30.
Lively Wantage resident Perry Goerner was busy at his booth explaining his numerous cedar wood creations. In the architectural and construction business, Goerner created robin nests, bird houses and bat brooding chambers, which encourage the bat population to occupy the chambers instead of invading people’s homes. His best invention appeared to be people and pet friendly mouse traps. The cedar traps were decorated with little mice angels.
“That’s what they (mice) turn into after they enter this trap,” the bubbly Goerner laughed.
After the garage sale shopping experience, visitors could plan some of their spring future home improvements by visiting the fourth annual Northern New Jersey Home Show. Area contractors, improvement businesses, remodeling and alternate power companies were represented like Farmside Landscaping and Momentum Solar of South Plainfield.
