Sussex man faces drug charges

    FRANKLIN — A Sussex man faces drug charges after Franklin Borough police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Monday, March 18.
    James B. Conklin, 38, of Sussex was chaarged with narcotics offenses.
    Police said officers discovered that a pick-up truck had driven off the road onto private property near State Highway 23. The vehicle appeared to have crashed down an embankment for unknown reasons. The driver complained of pain and was taken to Newton Medical Center for what appeared to be minor injuries.
    The passenger, later identified as Conklin, had exited the vehicle and left the area on foot prior to police arrival. He was found on County Route 517 near Skyview Drive. Conklin advised officers he was on parole. He was found to be in possession of marijuana and further found to have a Sussex County Superior Court Warrant.
    The cause of the crash is unknown.
    After being taken into police custody and evaluated by Saint Clair’s Emergency Medical Services, Conklin was transported to Newton Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. He was later turned over to the Sussex County Correctional Facility pending execution of the Superior Court Warrant and narcotics offenses.
    Traffic was being diverted around the accident scene while the vehicle was removed from the embankment. No roads were closed as a result of the collision/incident.
    The investigation is ongoing.
