A Hamburg woman is facing charges when she allegedly assaulted a police officer to prevent being arrested.
Jordana M. Cappiello, 26, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Police said on Thursday, Feb. 14, at about 10 p.m., they received a call of an erratic driver near the Irish Cottage Inn on Route 23. Police said they found one of the involved parties arguing with another party on the scene.
As patrol intervened in the dispute police said Cappiello, who claimed to have ties to the Latin Kings, became extremely aggressive, engaging in fighting, threatening, and violent behavior. She continued to shout offensive language and profanity while at the Irish Cottage Inn.
When officers attempted to arrest Cappiello, they said she became combative and made efforts to avoid being arrested. During the course of the arrest, she bit Officer Nicholas Della Fera’s shoulder, causing pain and bruising.
Cappiello was ultimately detained and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
Della Fera was treated for injuries at Newton Medical Center.
Following her arrest, Cappiello was released in accordance with the guidelines on New Jersey's bail system pending her first appearance in Central Judicial Processing.
