Water commission announces new chairman

Dr. Howard L. Burrell has been electetd as the new chairman of the North District Water Supply Commission, Executive Director Tim Eustace recently announced.
“I am delighted and honored to be elected to serve as the Chairman of the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission,” Burrell said. “I am committed to working with my colleagues to serve the ratepayers interest as we continue to provide water for millions of New Jerseyans.”
Burrell, who has served on the Board of Commissioners for NJDWSC since 2013, will be the first African-American Chairman in the history of the Commission. Burrell also serves on the State of New Jersey Selective Service System Local Board; New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District Academy Nomination Selection Committee and the Board of Trustees for the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Burrell previously served as an assistant director in the New Jersey Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development, a Sussex County freeholder, a Vernon Township Council member and Deputy Mayor, as well as the President of the Vernon Township Board of Education.
The commissioners also elected Charles P. Shotmeyer as vice chairman.
Shotmeyer has served on the Commission since 2000 and has recently served as chairman of the commission from 2012 until this year.
“Over the last year, NJDWSC has been looking at its overall operations and working with the Governor’s Administration to identify efficiencies and policies that will fit in with the Governor’s priorities,” said Eustace. “The Commission is committed to serving the water needs of our customers every day at the lowest possible cost, and Chairman Burrell is dedicated to that goal”, said Eustace.
