Vernon woman killed in crash

    A Vernon woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Green Pond Road in Jefferson Township on Monday, Jan. 14.
    Jefferson Township police said at approximately 9:15 p.m. officers responded to a three-vehicle crash with possible entrapment on Green Pond Road, in the area of Deerhaven. Upon arrival police observed a silver 2003 Ford Taurus in flames. Officer Ondish extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher.
    The driver, Katelynn Campbell, 25, of Highland Lakes, was inside the vehicle at the time. She was Medivaced to Hackensack Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead
    A second vehicle, a black 2015 Subaru Impreza, operated by Ashleigh Boissonault, 36, of Budd Lake, had serious injuries and was Medivac?d to Morristown Memorial Hospital.
    The third vehicle, a white 2016 Nissan Rogue, operated by Elizabeth Salomon, 51, of Butler, and passenger Amanda Salomon, 19, of Butler, were not injured.
    Preliminary investigation by Traffic Safety Officer Davis, Detective Sergeant Krater, Officer Ondish revealed Campbell was traveling southwest on Green Pond Road heading toward Route 80. The other vehicles were traveling in the opposite direction, heading toward Route 23.
    Police said Campbell's vehicle crossed over into the opposite lane of travel and struck vehicle 2 head on, causing vehicle 2 to leave the roadway and roll over off the road into an embankment. Campbell's vehicle then started to roll over and strike the the third vehicle head-on.
    This matter is still under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and Jefferson Township Traffic Safety.
