Diana and Mary Petrovski always wanted to start a business together.
Who would have guessed that the dream became a reality over a casual dinner. Both women loved the urban cowboy look, but how could they make it into a business? The answer came when mom, Mary, ordered at Old Fashioned and asked for her favorite bourbon: Bullet. Diana followed suit and before they knew it the dinner had turned into an epiphany.
“Everything just fell into place,” Mary said. “We said let's open a boot store and let's call it Bullet Boots after the name of the bourbon. We talked about ideas and concepts and before we knew it, we had a plan.”
The ladies' love of the western style escalated when Mary took her daughter to Nashville for her 21st birthday. They became immediately entranced with the boutique stores with all the sparkle and bling and wanted to bring such a thing to New Jersey.
Another catalyst to open the store were Diana's boots. She has a hard foot to fit, so when she found a pair of sparkling boots that fit her, she started wearing them a lot.
“People at concerts especially would always ask me where I got my boots,” she said.
“We chose Sussex County because people love the outdoors so it seemed a natural,” Mary said. “Diana developed a business plan and scouted the local area. Management at The Shoppes at Lafayette liked our concept and we loved the location.”
The store opened Dec. 7.
“Bullet Boots is a modern western-style boutique bringing the Wild West to the east for guys, gals, and little buckaroos,” Diana said. “It’s a special boutique where you can experience where fashion meets function and can expect to find some of the industries finest handmade western boot brands, western hats, steampunk hats motorcycle boots, western apparel, and other trend-setting styles.”
The boutique also has a bridal section where brides to be and their wedding parties love to come to gussy up their style for a bachelorette party and/or the big day.
The Cow Baby Corner has some unique baby gifts and the mens section has everything for the guy who likes a western flare. Their Jack Daniels merchandise is very popular.
Bullet Boots carries brands including: Corral, Ferrini, Free People, American Hatmakers, RuffleButts, and many others. Rhinestone boots are very popular with the ladies these days as are Bullet Boots' short boots and apparel.
The Petrovskis live in Fairfield but say they love the farmland style of Sussex County and don't care for the traffic in the more urban counties.
“We love all of the land, the scenery, the animals and the love of outdoors in Sussex County,” Diana said.
The boutique is hopping and the ladies use social media to show their products. In the future, they hope to expand this aspect of the business while growing the boutique. If you don't see something in stock, it can be special ordered.
