NEWTON — The Newton Theatre Arts Academy has opened up registration for Winter classes.

For the youngest of budding actors there is Acting Up Kids — Storybook Theatre for students K through 2nd grade, Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. starting Wednesday, Jan 23, and runs for 8 weeks. Using fables both familiar and new, students will learn about the theatre fundamentals of focus, characterization and stage presence. There is a showcase presentation on the last class.

For those who love the fine arts, there is Studio Exploration for students third through 12th grades. Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. starting Saturday, Jan. 26, and runs for 8 weeks. Art techniques in drawing, painting, and collage will be explored through projects designed to stimulate the creative process and individual artistic expression.

If you are a shutterbug, you might enjoy Beginning Photography for seventh grade on up, including adults. Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m. starting Thurs. Jan 24, and runs for 4 weeks. Students will need to bring a digital photography camera with an M (Manual) and Av or A (Aperture Priority) mode. The class is designed for digital cameras but can also be used on high-end point and shoot and bridge cameras.

The Academy is now offering Private Lessons for voice or piano open to children and adults. Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. You must sign up in advance for these 30 minutes lessons at just $30. No matter if you are just starting out or are Broadway Bound and want to improve, private lessons are of great benefit.
