Lake Mohawk plans German Christmas Market

| 27 Nov 2018 | 03:50

Lake Mohawk Golf Club will be celebrating the German Christmas Market with a day of family events including a three-act show by the Magical Marionette Theater.
Three shows will be performed on Dec. 1 and 2.
The show features two 20” tall, hand-made marionettes named Puppenskaya, the world’s tiniest prima ballerina, and the Amazing Professor Puppenini, the last of the great vaudevillian magicians and master violinist.
In three acts, the unique show includes the original magic of the Amazing Puppenini, the graceful ballet leaps and pirouettes of Madame Puppenskaya, and closes with Professor Puppenini’s violin virtuosity. The old-world show is designed to entertain children, though adults are equally amused.
Though an intimate show, the Magical Marionette Theater has entertained thousands at the Lincoln Center Out of Door Festival, the Museum of Natural History, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Paramount Theater, Madison Square Garden, and was selected to be an act for the MTA’s Music Under New York Series as well as the Holiday Market at Grand Central Station in New York City.
The company’s artistic director and creator, Rachel Hennelly, is a folk artist who hand carves and creates the costumes of all of her marionettes. Her creations harken back to America’s earliest traditions of folk art and homespun handcrafts. Each is designed and made on commission for clients.
Ms. Hennelly is a classically trained ballet dancer who studied with Irene Fokine and the American Ballet Theater. She is also an experienced juggler who has combined the circus arts with dance in appearances at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and the New York Theater Ballet, Gould Hall, the National Actor Theater Gala with Tony Randall, the Brooklyn Academy of Music-the Children’s Festival, the Showboat Casino, and other regional theaters across the country.
She was complimented for her performance in the Nutcracker by Jack Anderson, dance critic for the New York Times, who wrote a highlight was “the lively Russian carnival sequence in which Rachel Hennelly juggled while she danced.”
Ms. Hennelly, a member of Equity and the American Guild of Musical Artists has been a featured dance soloist with the Houston Grand Opera, the Lake George Opera Festival, the Village Light Opera and has toured with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
The Golf Club’s family celebration includes German-American lunch in the restaurant, caroling, and the show (Adults $19.95; Children under 10 $11.95) or German-American dinner in the restaurant with live music and the show (Adults $29.95; Children under 10 $15.95).
