FBLA promotes agricultural awareness

The Wallkill Valley Regional High School members of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) are currently involved with a project that promotes awareness of some facet of the American enterprise system and specifically promotes local understanding of and support for this system.
New Jersey is known as the Garden State, and agriculture is a major industry in Sussex County. FBLA members have worked closely in learning about the agriculture-tourism business at Heaven Hill Farm, owned and operated by Martin Theobald, in Vernon, New Jersey.
The Wallkill Valley FBLA adviser was contacted by Mr. Theobald in reference to members assisting as parking attendants at the Great Pumpkin Festival at Heaven Hill Farm the last weekend in September and each weekend in October.
Collaborating with the business owner of Heaven Hill enables the members to learn what is involved in starting, promoting, running, and maintaining a small business. This opportunity illustrates that the traditional idea of farming does not just include growing tomatoes, corn, or pumpkins.
This highly successful agricultural business also includes plants, flowers, decorative garden ornaments, hay, apple cider donuts, fresh baked pies, and seasonal items; and Heaven Hill Farm promotes children’s activities “on the farm.”
