Labor Dept. announces internship opportunities

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) announced a Notice of Grant Opportunity on Thursday of up to $2,000,000 to support career development through summer internships for youth ages 14-21 with disabilities.
“Ensuring career opportunities for youth with disabilities is essential to creating a stronger, fairer, and more inclusive economy in New Jersey, which is a top priority of this administration,” said Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo. “This grant will provide the next generation of residents with disabilities work experience that will benefit a lifetime of careers.”
The internships will be at least 15 to 20 hours per week and pay minimum wage or higher. Prior to placement, each student will have access to work readiness services, so that the internship will result in a meaningful experience and good job match. Grantees are encouraged to provide paid internship experiences for 25 to 30 students.
The grant is administered through the Department’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS). Eligible applications must be organizations with the capacity to serve people with disabilities. Applicants can be private or public nonprofit organizations, independent living centers, faith-based organizations, and community rehabilitation programs.
