Girls Run the World

More than 900 people turned out for Girls World Expo Sunday October 20th at the Palacio Catering Center in Goshen. Activities for girls 11-18 included archery and self-defense demonstrations, aerial yoga, henna, hair styling and seminars on relevant topics.
The Advertiser News South brings the national Girls World Expo program to the area each October. Various area groups led high energy dance and movement demonstrations. Seminars included the well-attended Questions You Can Ask Your Mom, Healthy Relationships, Healthy You and Leadership.
Thanks to the generosity of Suburban Propane, as Angel Sponsor, five non-profits had booths at the event: The Goshen Humane Society, Zylophone Studios, Kyle’s Heart Helpers, Girls on the Run and Safe Homes of Orange County.
Goshen Police Officers Stanley Lipinski and Tony Pitt brought “beer goggles” so the girls and their parents could try to walk a straight line, simulating what it is like to take a sobriety test while impaired. The simulation was sponsored by Nationwide, Vogel and Moore. After walking the line, girls and their parents signed a safe driving pledge.
Vernon High School’s Viking Robotics, courtesy of Thor Labs’ sponsorship, brought along a box lifting robot complete with a demo station for girls to operate.
Other sponsors of the day included Competitive Power Ventures, Excel Urgent Care of Goshen, Jst B U, New York Dance Center, Frontier, South Orange Family YMCA, St. Luke’s, US Amy and Willcare.
Goshen High School Seniors sold food to fundraise for their prom and senior events.
