FRANKLIN — Franklin Borough School will offer free, full-day preschool for 26 Franklin Borough students starting in January 2019.
The current preschool program will expand to three preschool classes and afford current special needs students the opportunity to attend the full-day program. Over the next five years, New Jersey’s Preschool Education Expansion Aid Grant (PEEA) will give the district the opportunity to include all three- and four-year-old children from the community in the preschool program.
An Early Childhood Advisory Council comprised of administrators, teachers, parents and community stakeholders is tasked with rolling out the new preschool program and ensuring that all parameters of the grant are followed. The district will add an additional preschool teacher, a master teacher and three classroom aides to support the preschool program expansion. This grant will have a lasting positive impact on the Franklin Borough community and better prepare students for the future.
Students reaching age 3 on or before Oct. 1, are eligible to register. Registration will be open Oct. 15, through Nov. 16, 2018. If more than 26 students register, a lottery will take place at 9 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2018, at the Franklin Borough School. Only applicants who provide proof of residency and the child's original birth certificate will be included in the lottery.
To complete registration, parents/guardians must present the following:
    Child’s original birth certificate
Documented proof from the doctor of the child’s immunizations (including influenza which must be administered by December 31, 2018)
    A current physical
