Jack Charles Amato

    Jack Charles Amato, born on July 29, 1931, in Newark, NJ to the late Pasquale and Theresa (Casela) Amato of Port Morris, N.J., passed away at age 87 on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018. Previously from Port Morris and Mine Hill NJ, he had lived in Cranberry Lake and Franklin until his death.
    Mr. Amato served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Returning from the service, he graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He retired from Metromatic Corp. in 1986. Prior to that, he was employed by the Singer Corp. where he designed circuitry for large fabric looms and also by Bell Labs for whom he developed and designed patented circuitry for the earliest launched satellites, some still in existence today. He served as the former Tax Collector and Civil Defense Director of Mine Hill, N.J., and was very active in Democratic Politics where he served as Municipal Chairman.
    Jack is survived by his beloved wife Linda Esther Amato (nee Estell) of 32 years; his daughter, Patricia Ann (Amato) Jones and her husband, Brian; his son, Jack Charles Amato and his wife, Kathy; his grandchildren, Krystal, Brian, Kaitlin, Kimberly and Mathew; and his stepchildren Ralph Herbert Van Auken and his wife, Tracey; William Emmett Van Auken and his wife, Jayne; and Russell Donald Hammel; and his brother Vito Amato. He is also predeceased by his brother Pasquale Amato and cherished by many cousins, nieces, nephews and step grand and great grandchildren.
    The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin, N.J., on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception RC Church, Franklin, NJ at 11:30 AM.
