Since the disbanding of the volunteer first aid squad, Hardyston township has used the Emergency Medical Services of St. Clare's Hospital, first for certain times during the day, and then as the township's exclusive service.
“I can say without exception the Township has not only been 100% satisfied with the arrangement," Township Manager Marianne Smith said. "Saint Clare’s has exceeded our expectations.”
Hardyston Township was concerned that the residents were going to have concerns relative to the cost of the new paid coverage for St. Clare’s service. Smith said the residents were pleased with the new contract between St. Clare's and Hardyston Township.
Smith said that “their response time to the scene of an emergency, once dispatched, has consistently and most admirably averaged in the neighborhood of 10 minutes. The benchmark is remarkable in light of the fact that the Township is comprised of over 30 Square miles is inhabited by over 8,000 people, with clusters of population density at both geographic ends.”
Smith said the staff has been found to be professional, highly trained and personable to our residents, and first responding police officers.” Smith also explained that the Police Department feels confident they can count on arriving consistently within a reasonable amount of time.
“Vito, who is in charge emergency medical services at St. Clare’s, has been a pleasure to work with," Smith said. "We are now in our second year with St. Clare’s and have no regrets in our decision to contract with a paid service.” In addition Smith explained that there has been a marked municipal budgetary savings.
Some squad employees from St. Clare’s emergency medical services were at the event as well.” They told me that all their ambulances are based out of their Dover station, St. Clare’s, Dover and they service a good majority of Morris County. They also cover Union and Passaic as well. “The Sussex County expansion is just a really nice area to expand. “We love Hardyston”. “It is a beautiful town for us and the Major Carl Miller is a very lovely man.” We just really enjoy working with Hardyston and the relationship is a beneficial one for everyone.”
They have multiple units up in Sussex County and all serve different towns.
They have a main truck that sits in the Franklin Hotel Center which is the Hardyston truck. They also have their Vernon truck, Hamburg, Franklin and Ogdensburg truck.
