HARDYSTON — Saint Jude the Apostle, located at 4 Beaver Run Road in Hardyston will officially have a new address as of Monday, Sept. 24, 2018.
The parish which has been listed with a Post Office Box, and municipal address in Hamburg will now officially be moved into Hardyston where the parish is physically located.
Bishop Arthur Serratelli who is the Bishop of Paterson approved the transfer from Hamburg to Hardyston for the parish.
“We lacked the community relationship because we were saying that we are in one community, where the parish has no official relationship. We receive our emergency services from Hardyston, pay tax to Hardyston, and are physically located in Hardyston”, said Fr. Michael Rodak, Pastor of Saint Jude the Apostle.
Fr. Rodak remarked that the parish is a missing jewel in the area as it is often overlooked or not recognized because of the address situation. Fr. Michael stated that many times delivery trucks or visitors to the parish can’t find us, and conveyed one account: “We have a building development taking place within a half mile of our parish, but the real estate company indicated that the nearest Catholic parish is nearly four miles away,” causing Fr. Michael to additionally say: “that’s crazy!”
Saint Jude the Apostle serves many Catholics in central-northern Sussex County including the communities of Hardyston, and Hamburg, and even parts of: Sussex (Scenic Lakes), lower McAfee, Wantage, and Lafayette. In many instances, the municipal designation in an address is being determined by the Post Office address, and not the physical address.
Fr. Rodak who already participates in a number of activities in Hardyston Township looks forward to the new relationship officially to the community. “It is good to finally be part of the community which I think will give us a true identity ’” said Fr. Rodak.
Saint Jude the Apostle was formed as a Mission Church, and had its first Mass in the Upper Room of the Governor Haines Restaurant on Route 23 in 1965. In 1979, former Bishop Frank Rodimer granted Saint Jude the status as parish.
The parish offers various spiritual, ministerial, and social activities for its parishioners.
