Crystal Run qualifier contested amidst Heat Wave

In spite of “Heat Wave” conditions Crystal Springs Golf Resort Members and Guests turned out for the 3rd Crystal Cup Qualifying Tournament at the Wild Turkey Golf Club produced five more qualifiers for the end of season Crystal Cup Shoot Out which will determine the 2018 Crystal Cup Champions in three Divisions; the Men’s, Seniors, and Women’s.
The event featured a two golfer team handicap format in which each golfer hit their tee shot. The best of the two shots was selected and each team member then played his or her own golf ball through the completion of the hole and for the remainder of the 18 holes. The team with the lowest team score after handicap in each of the 3 Divisions was declared the winner.
The top performers in the Men’s Division was the team of Perry Kasturas and Mike Criscuoli with a team score of 14 under par 57 with the team of Daniel Dessart and Zach Alba finishing taking 2nd place based on a match of cards due to 3 teams carding a score of 11 under par 60.
The Senior Division winning team was Don Gattoni and Richard Berkenbush with a score of 13 under par 58 closely followed by the 2nd place team of Joseph Giammarino and Michael Antola who scored a 12 under par 59. The Lady’s Division winners were Dana Reid and Heather Reid with a score of 22 over par 93. All winners received prizes plus earning qualification for the end of season Crystal Cup Shoot Out scheduled to be contested on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at New Jersey’s #1 Public Golf Course the Ballyowen Golf Club.
Prizes were also awarded to golfers who were closest to the pin and who hit the longest drive. The Men’s Division long drive winner was Zach Alb while Dona Wallerius was a repeat winner for the Lady’s Division. Joe Gimmarino took top honors for the Senior Division. Carlos Hernandez’s tee shot landed 3’ 4” from the pin to earn him the win the win in the closest to the pin competition on the par 3 7th hole.
