College to offer training courses

    Training courses in the health care and business fields are being offering in the fall at Sussex County Community College, as part of Skylands Professional Training.
    Among the business courses offered from SPT are:
    Computerized Accounting: This course starts with classes in MS Windows, Word and Excel and moves into basic accounting principles and QuickBooks Pro with class assignments based on actual workplace projects. It covers accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, financial statements and other accounting practices. Classes will run from September 24-December 7 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
    Fiber Optics Technician: Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) and Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing and Maintenance (CFOS/T) courses will be offered in October. Both courses are recognized by The US Department of Labor and sanctioned by the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) to offer an unprecedented opportunity to learn about fiber optics networking through an internationally recognized fiber optics training company. CFOT training runs October 17-17 and CFOS/T runs Oct. 18 and Oct. 19. Both are scheduled from 8 p.m. until 5 p.m.
    A ServSafe Manager Course: This course is ideal for current employees of dining establishments who are either managers now, or employees wishing to obtain the certification in anticipation of being considered for a new position in the future. Participants will earn the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification, which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute. The course runs Oct. 17 and Oct, 24 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. with a registration deadline of Oct. 3.
    SPT is also offering the following healthcare training:
    Dialysis Technician: A Dialysis Technician provides direct patient care within the dialysis unit. Under the direction of nurses and doctors, Dialysis Technicians play a vital role as part of the dialysis team. This program runs from Sept. 24 until Nov. from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and has a registration deadline of Sept. 17.
    Pet First Aid Certification: This course gives the student skills to perform animal CPR, general pet care, how to prepare for and react to pet emergencies, understanding animal behavior, hands on practical’s, and planning and preparing for disasters. The course runs on Nov. 7 from 6 p.m. to 1 p.m. with a registration deadline of Nov. 1.
    Pharmacy Technician: This career track educates the student on how to prepare and dispense medicine in this burgeoning field. Upon completion of the course, students will be prepared to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. Students can find employment in retail pharmacies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, as well as other facilities. Classes run Oct. 1 through Oct. 22 with a registration deadline of Sept. 24. An additional course will run from Nov. 27, through Jan. 24, with a registration deadline of Nov. 20.
    Veterinary Assistant: This program provides instruction for assisting with veterinary procedures, surgery and basic animal care. Students will also learn lab tests, taking medical history, assisting with patient education and many aspects of working in a veterinary office. This course includes classroom lectures and hands on labs (but not the clinical rotation that would be necessary before obtaining state certification). The course runs Sept. 25, 2018, through Jan. 22, 2019, from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. with a registration deadline of Sept. 18.
