VERNON — Vernon United Methodist Church will host Optical Academy on Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Optical Academy provides complete eye exams by licensed optometrists, and quality eyewear and contact lenses at very low cost. The event is scheduled to coincide with the “back to school” season. Children who might not otherwise have access to complete eye health care will be able to have their eyes examined and be fitted with any needed eyeglasses before beginning school in the fall.
The Optical Academy is not limited to children. Adults are also welcome. There is no income qualification for services, but an appointment for the event is required. Appointments can be made by visiting the VernonUMC.org website or calling Optical Academy directly at 1-800-530-2730 to register by phone. Eye exams start at $30, and single-vision eyeglasses start at just $29. Insurance is accepted but not required. The church hopes that this program will help many people to obtain much-needed preventive care for their vision.
The Vernon United Methodist Church has a long and rich history of providing important community services to local residents that assist families and individuals. Their food pantry and clothing ministry are open three days weekly. Staffed by volunteers and supported by donations from the congregation, community, and local businesses, those ministries help families bridge the gap in times of need. The church also sponsors a free meal every Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
