When an Active Shooter is in your vicinity, you must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with the situation.
Sussex/Warren Community Organizations Active in Disaster will host a free training on Sept. 13. The training will be provided by Ed Moore from the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. The training will be held at the Tranquility UMC on Kennedy Road in Andover from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and registration is required.
An “active shooter” is an individual who is engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Victims are selected at random. This type of event is unpredictable and evolves quickly. Knowing what to do can save lives.
The training will share details about how to assess your workplace for vulnerabilities, threats in our area and how to survive an active shooter incident. This event is free to all organizations and businesses serving Sussex or Warren County, but registration is required as space is limited.

In addition to this timely and important training, participants have the opportunity to network with others in our community and learn how we can all work collaboratively during times of crisis. The SWCOAD’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a community we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
