Traditional golf is generally considered at “Man’s Game.”
However more and more women are finding the game enjoyable with a few modifications to the requirement to play a four hour round of 18 holes of golf, the pressure to individually produce good shot after good shot to get a good score, all too serious attitude that most men approach playing golf and the absence of socializing during and after play.
The Crystal Springs Golf Resort’s 9 & Dine Tournaments epitomize these modifications.
The 9 & Dine Tournaments are designed to be fun for all who play and to make it possible to enjoy 9 holes of golf following a scramble format in which the team hits their shots but play the best ball of the team taking the pressure off of the women to repeatedly hit quality shots play, and following golf enjoy socializing with their friends at Owen’s Pub following golf while eating a delicious dinner.
The Crystal Springs Golf Resort’s 9 & Dine events are held weekly at Ballyowen GC on Thursday afternoons beginning at 4 PM and at the Black Bear GC on Fridays at the same time and following the same format.
The Thursday, June 14, 9 & Dine Tournament at Ballyowen attracted husbands and wives, young and old and friends to compete in the event.
At the end of play the team of Kevin Reed, Kevin Orabone, Mike Sylvester and Craig had recorded a score of five under par 31 on the par 36 front 9 at Ballyowen GC to win the event.
Prizes were also awarded to the golfer who was able to hit his or her tee shots closest to the pin on the par 3 hole #6.
None of the women in the competition was able to land their tee shot on the green, but Kevin Rees was able to land his ball 8 feet from the pin to outperform Larry Wolfert whose tee shot came to rest ten feet further from the flag at 18 feet 8 inches.
