Hardyston Middle School students worked together to weed, plant and water the Hardyston community charity garden and beautify the community gazebo on June 5. Students were joined by the Hardyston Deputy Manager Carrine Piccolo-Kaufer and Sussex County YMCA staff members for a day of hard work and service. Students planted green beans, radishes and cucumbers in the charity garden. In addition, students planted flowers around the community gazebo. Students especially enjoyed working in the charity garden and learning about how the fresh vegetables from the garden are donated weekly to the Catholic Family & Community Services — Partnership for Social Services Food Pantry located at 48 Wyker Road, Franklin.
The service project was the last day of a 6-week, after school program made possible by the Hardyston Township, the Hardyston/Franklin Municipal Drug Alliance, the Hardyston Middle School and the Sussex County YMCA. Students met weekly at the YMCA to swim, play basketball, volleyball or gaga, as well as share a healthy snack. Middle school students receive a free membership at the Sussex County YMCA.
